I have recommendations…
I have three recommendations to make. 2 books, 1 album. This isn’t so much a review as just me saying these items are awesome and there’s a chance you may enjoy them as well.
1. The Dog Stars by Peter Heller
If you read and liked The Road by Cormac McCarthy, I can all but guarantee you’ll like this book. Same post-apocalyptic setting, same sense of survival, love, and despair. Nothing makes you question yourself and our species like a life or death situation does.
2. The Martian by Andy Weir
It’s about an astronaut who has been left behind on Mars, who has to rely on his skills as a botanist and mechanical engineer to survive. I know, it doesn’t sound all that exciting, but it’s honestly hilarious, and the scientific detail is fantastic. I started reading this book last night, and my Kindle tells me I’m only about 10% of the way through, but I don’t care. I’m recommending this book already. It’s fantastic so far. How could I not recommend a book that’s first line is “I’m pretty much fucked.”?
I’m sure I’ll write a little more about this book whenever I finish it, but already I say you should give it a go.
3. ††† (Crosses)
Yes, Chino Moreno of Deftones is the vocalist in this band, but if you’re not a fan of the heavy stuff, fear not(!), this album isn’t heavy at all. In fact, it’s more of a rock album with hip hop beats… sort of. I’m not really sure how to explain it. But it’s fantastic.
